CISM Teams in Bermuda
Bermuda Police CISM Team
The
Bermuda Police Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) programme was
officially launched in June 2002. It was initiated to provide
psychologically based emergency response services to all police officers and
support personnel who encountered numerous critical incidents during the
course of their duties. Currently, there are 23 team members, which include
police officers and mental health professionals. The Police CISM team is
actively involved in providing stress management and CISM interventions to
colleagues within the Bermuda Police Service. One notable accomplishment was
the deployment of CISM trained police personnel to New York City to assist
the NYPD after Sept. 11 in March 2002.
Bermuda Hospitals Board CISM Team
The
BHB CISM Team was established in 1997 after the tragic murder of a local
student. This death impacted the entire Emergency Department to such a
degree that the ER Medical Director requested something be done to assist
hospital personnel. As a result, the BHB CISM team was established to assist
staff members who experienced critical incidents during the course of their
duties. There are over 40 CISM team members who represent the various
departments in the hospital and they provide a range of stress management
services at KEMH and St. Brendan’s Hospital. One notable accomplishment
was the deployment of CISM trained personnel to New York City to assist the
NYPD after Sept. 11 in March 2002.
